There has been a multi-vehicle accident on the M62 westbound between Huddersfield and Greater Manchester this afternon (Friday).

Motorists are experiencing severe delays due to the incident, whice happened near junction 23 for Saddleworth on Rishworth Moor.

Travel services say motorists are to expect delays of up to 60 minutes with traffic down to just one of three lanes.

Two people were taken to hospital after a multi-vehicle collision on the M62.

Around 12.15pm this afternoon, a car, a van and a lorry crash between junctions 22 and 23 on the westbound carriage.

All emergency services attended the scene.

There were delays of up to 90 minutes and congestion was back to junction 24.

All lanes were reopened around 3pm.

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust:

“We were called at 12.15 to junction 23 of the M62 following initial reports of a collision between two vans. We sent a rapid response vehicles, two ambulances and the hazardous area response team. Two patients were taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary by road. There is no further information as to the extent of their injuries.”

Three vehicles involved in collision

Highways England say three vehicles have been involved in the collision and all emergency services are at the scene.

A spokeswoman said:

“It involves a car, a van and a lorry. The incident occurred at 12.14 between junctions 22 and 23 on the westbound carriage.

“Traffic is back to junction 24 and there are around an hour’s worth of delays.

“Fire, police ambulances and traffic officers are currently at the scene and two lanes are closed while we deal with the incident.”
