A little girl whose proudest possession is her gorgeous long hair allowed a hairdresser to chop 12 inches off yesterday in aid of charity.

Nicole Harrison, aged seven, of Fenay Bridge, made a rare visit to a hair salon to support The Little Princess Trust.

It is a children’s cancer charity and its mission is to supply real-hair wigs to children suffering with cancer, for the duration of their treatment for free.

Proud mum, Jade Villa, watched as Craig Herriman, of Richard Charles Hair Spa in Kirkburton, trimmed her flowing tresses which will be donated to the Trust.

Jade, a nurse at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, said: “She is a pupil at Rowley J&I School and all the girls want to be her friend because she has such lovely long hair.

“She has always been the girl with the longest hair in the class.

“Nicole is a very girly girl and has always liked to have her hair long.

“Before it happened she was nervous and excited and Craig has done a marvellous job. She looks gorgeous.

“It’s quite strange since it’s going to mean there’s a lot less blow drying going on in our home.

“And as a nurse it’s really nice to see a young girl behaving in such a caring way.”

Around £500 has been raised. Readers can donate at www.justgiving.com/jade-villa .
