A FOUR-year-old Huddersfield girl was thrown from a bus after the doors shut on her.

Kyra Lynch, of Farfield Road in Almondbury, suffered a bruised finger, a grazed elbow and bruised knees.

Now the bus company has promised an investigation.

Kyra had got on the 372 First bus with mum Kimberley Lynch at Waterloo at 11am last Sunday.

Fifteen minutes later the bus stopped in Southfield Road, Almondbury.

Kimberley got off first and was turning to lift Kyra down from the doorway when the doors shut.

Kyra was pushed off the bus and fell on the pavement.

The bus moved off, leaving the shocked mother and daughter at the roadside.

As the bus turned to come back down the road Kimberley flagged it down.

It stopped and she got on to ask the driver why he had pressed the button to close the door so early and why he drove away without apologising.

He denied shutting the doors on Kyra and refused to give Kimberley his name.

She said: "I couldn't believe it. It was disgusting.

"He just didn't care that she was injured.

"It could have been much worse."

Kyra still has a bruised finger and grazes, but has suffered no lasting damage.

Her mother has complained to First Bus, who say they are investigating the incident.

Commercial director Nigel Winter said: "We are investigating this with the employee concerned and a witness that has come forward.

"Our highest priority is safety.

"This is why we are taking time to fully investigate how such an incident could have occurred.

"We hope Kyra makes a speedy recovery."

Mr Winter added that regardless of the investigation's outcome First will be offering a goodwill gesture to Kyra by sending her and two friends on a trip to Chester Zoo.

First will be running a weekly bus service to Chester Zoo during the summer holidays.
