A HUDDERSFIELD woman has won praise for tireless charity work in memory of her teenage daughter.

Jacquie Roeder, of Edgerton, has raised £400,000 in memory of her daughter, Laura, who died of cancer in 1996, aged just 17.

Now her efforts have earned her a highly-commended certificate in awards for charity workers.

The achievements were marked by the Beacon Fellowship, a group which recognises benevolent acts.

Mrs Roeder said: "I am honoured to receive the award but would like to accept it on behalf of my amazing daughter and all those who have supported me since Laura died.

"I am delighted that our fundraising has greatly exceeded our initial ambitions but this wouldn't have been possible without the overwhelming support that we have received."

Her Laura Crane Trust was set up mainly to fund research into cancer in young people aged 13 to 25.

Mrs Roeder manages the trust on a voluntary basis with the help of Helen Mervill and the recent addition of Lucie Keeton.

Emily Stonor, chief executive of Beacon, said: " "With many hundreds of outstanding nominations, Jacquie Roeder's achievements stood out as exceptional."
