POLICE arrested three men early today on suspicion of stealing lead from the roof of a Huddersfield museum.

Officers were called to the Tolson Museum in Ravensknowle Park at 3.30am today and had to clamber through a skylight to bring the suspects down.

It is estimated that £5,000 damage has been caused to the roof.

The Wakefield men aged 19, 20 and 24 were taken to Huddersfield police headquarters for questioning and were still being held there today.

There has been a big upsurge in the theft of lead from homes and businesses across Huddersfield over the last few months fuelled by a large increase in the price of scrap lead.

If people spot anyone acting suspiciously on roofs they should phone 999.
