THE Romans have visited Tolson Museum to teach people about their history.

Soldiers from the Colchester Re-enactment Society invaded the museum, in Ravensknowle Park, Moldgreen, to show off artefacts and help visitors understand what life was like in Roman times.

They helped people make Roman shields, helmets and pottery and even served up some of the types of food the soldiers would have enjoyed.

Museum officer Chris Marks, of Shepley, said the day was a big success.

She said: "This is the second year we have held the Roman day and we will definitely be making it an annual event because people seem to really enjoy it.

"People are really interested in history like this and making it a bit more real seems to work.

"The Romans, who came up from Colchester, were brilliant and we had lots of other experts on hand as well to answer any questions people had."
