ARTS minister Estelle Morris gave her seal of approval to Huddersfield's Contemporary Music Festival.

She met the festival's artistic director Susanna Eastburn, education director Liz Muge and a number of artists and performers during a visit to the town.

The minister watched several rehearsals for the festival, including students from Huddersfield University.

Later, on the Piazza, she met young people from Newsome, Paddock, Deighton and Skelmanthorpe and from Birkdale High School, Dewsbury, in the Sample and See workshops.

The performance was the culmination of an eight-week education project focusing on sampling and video DJ-ing supported by Kirklees Young People's Service and Beaumont Street Studios.

The 26th festival started last Friday and runs until Sunday.
