A musical wheelbarrow and a singing cauliflower entertained reception class pupils at Nields School, Slaithwaite, during a musical workshop.

Slaithwaite arts group The Satellites visited the school earlier with their production of The Musical Garden.

Group members then based some musical workshops on their play. Satellites members Gill Bond and Andy Burton are seen with some of the children.

Early years teacher Mrs Julie Schofield said: "They have been singing songs linked to The Musical Garden production, looking at different elements of music and experiencing the instruments.

"The children have been getting involved and really enjoying it."

The Satellites hope to gain ideas from the children which will help them to produce follow-up teaching materials including a CD and songbook.

Once they are completed the group will make them available for schools and child care establishments across West Yorkshire.

The Satellites' project has won cash support from the National Foundation for Youth Music.
