TWO Calderdale musical groups are to perform at the National Festival of Music for Youth in London on July 8.

Music for Youth has invited the Calderdale Youth Guitar Ensemble and The Alhambra Quartet, from the Calderdale Music Service, who rehearse each week, to take part.

The guitar ensemble is a group of 22 musicians, aged 11 to 18.

They play a varied repertoire, including baroque, classical, pop, jazz and 20th century works.

Members are invited to join the group following successful auditions.

The National Festival of Music for Youth - the largest festival of its kind in Europe - takes place at the Royal Festival Hall, the Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Purcell Room in the South Bank centre from July 5 to 10.
