A SPONSORED community fast was held in aid of Kirkwood Hospice at Dalton.
The fast was organised by local Muslims, but was aimed at people from non- Muslim backgrounds, who fasted wherever they were.
It was held to coincide with the Muslim community's fourth week of Ramadan. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Muslim calendar, during which the community fasts.
Members of the South Kirklees Muslim Faith Centre's Hanfia Mosque at Lockwood organised the fast as part of its contribution towards Kirklees Council's Community Cohesion agenda.
It was hoped it would give people an insight into what it was like for Muslims to go without food and water for a day.
After the fast a meal was served at the Bentley Street mosque, where members are pictured taking part.
Those fasting included officials and councillors from Kirklees, West Yorkshire police officials, local head teachers and faith group representatives.
The day involved a tour of the mosque and a presentation on Ramadan.
