A window was blown out of a house in a mystery explosion while a father and his young son were sitting watching TV.

The cause of the blast at the house in Halifax Road, Dewsbury, on Saturday evening, is a puzzle and an investigation into what happened is now under way.

Crews from Dewsbury and Cleckheaton along with specialist fire officers were called to the property at just before 7pm on Saturday.

Police and an ambulance crew also attended.

A spokesman from Dewsbury Fire Station said: “The whole bay window had blown out and we were called over concerns of the stability of the premises.

“A 38-year-old male and his son, who was aged eight, were sat in the front room when it exploded.

“The window was blown out into the garden.

“Nobody was injured. I wouldn’t say they were lucky because there was an explosion but things could have been worse.”

The gas supply was isolated by fire crews and the gas board was alerted but there was no sign that a gas leak had caused the explosion.

The spokesman added that there was no fire or apparent cause to the incident.

He said that the cause is currently under investigation.
