STUNNING model Nell McAndrew today helped declare war on expensive bottled water.

She was at Scammonden Reservoir to help launch a campaign by Yorkshire Water.

The company is urging people to stop splashing out on expensive brands of bottled water when tap water is just as good. Chilling tap water before drinking it will only improve the taste, says Yorkshire Water.

Nell, 29, said it was a message she fully supported: "Being born in Leeds I was brought up on Yorkshire water. Whenever I'm back in Yorkshire I prefer drinking tap water to bottled water as it does taste great - especially when chilled."

Yorkshire Water argues that tap water is far better value for money than bottled water - with a litre from the tap costing as little as 0.006p - a thousand times cheaper than many bottled waters. Two years ago the company found six out of 10 people could not taste the difference between tap water and expensive brands.

To support its case the company has hired a team of "Ice Angels" to distribute water jugs across its region. They will also be giving out chilled tap water on the street.

The company's business unit director Richard Flint said: "It seems ludicrous that many people feel the need to fork out a fortune on buying bottled water."
