A NEW art and photographic exhibition is to be opened celebrating Yorkshire’s coal mining history.

The National Coal Mining Museum for England in Overton has collected images over the last four years.

Now, thanks to support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, an exhibition entitled: ‘Seeing the Whole Picture’ has been put together.

The museum has collected images from former and present-day mining communities.

Subjects include the 1984-85 miners’ strike and the home life of miners and there is work by renowned coal miner-artist George William Bissill.

Schools and youth groups have also contributed artwork.

The exhibition will also feature interactive sections where visitors can create their own masterpieces.

The exhibition will be officially opened to invited guests on October 8.
