PLANS which could lead to up to 20,000 new homes being built in Kirklees came under fresh attack today.
Maggie Throup, Tory Parliamentary candidate for the Colne Valley, said: "I do support the provision of new homes being built, but it is important that they are the right homes, in the right places.
"We should be regenerating our existing towns and cities and tackling the issue of empty homes, rather than building endless executive homes on green belt land."
She said there were fears that Lindley Moor would once again come under threat of development.
Houses planned for the Golcar area will cause even more chaos on already overloaded roads, she added.
Ms Throup said: "One of my deeply- held beliefs is that whether you live in an urban or rural area, you should be able to live in a pleasant environment."
She added she was extremely concerned that services such as hospitals, GPs, dentist and libraries would not cope with a surge in demand.
