BOOKSELLER Waterstone's is opening a store in Huddersfield.

It will open in the Kingsgate Centre in November, in the run-up to the busy Christmas shopping period.

The shop will occupy a 3,500sq ft unit between Beatties department store and the Next fashion shop.

Waterstone's will feature a wide range of books on specialist subjects, as well as a children's book department.

Waterstone's, which is part of the HMV Group, is recruiting a manager for the Kingsgate store.

A spokeswoman said it was too early to say how many jobs would be created.

Martin Carr, operations director for Waterstone's, said: "The Kingsgate branch opening is part of a programme of expansion and investment in the UK, to help us maintain our position as the country's leading specialist bookseller."

The move follows the successful opening of a Waterstone's store at Manchester's Trafford Centre in May.

Mr Carr said: "We are delighted to announce the opening of the Huddersfield branch as part of our commitment to expansion.

"We have identified several new locations for Waterstone's branches.

"We hope to be able to announce further branch openings later in the year," added Mr Carr.

In addition to Huddersfield, Waterstone's announced the opening of a stores in Edinburgh and one in Essex.

This new wave of branch openings will bring the total of Waterstone's branches to 194.

In addition, the company is revamping existing branches, with 50 stores to be re-fitted this year.
