HUDDERSFIELD'S MP says big businesses which dominate towns and cities must put something back into the community.

Barry Sheerman said they were draining cash from their locality but putting very little back.

The Labour MP added: "Small local businesses have a much better reputation for re-investment locally. They add so much more to the broader social and economic life of our towns and regions."

The big firms should wake up before it became necessary for the Government to launch a serious programme of corporate community responsibility, said Mr Sheerman.
