A DANCING, acting and fitness academy based on Asian culture is being launched in Huddersfield.

Salma Zaman, 33, of Fixby, has set up Salma's Dance and Fitness Academy and is holding a taster session at the Galpharm Stadium's dance studio on Saturday, April 2.

She will be teaching Bollywood, Lollywood and Bhangra dancing and acting, as well as taking aerobics classes to funky Indian beats.

She said it was a fantastic way for both adults and children to have fun and keep fit.

"Bollywood is already massive and getting bigger in this country, so I thought people might like to learn more about it," said Salma, who is also an expert in Arabic and Turkish dance.

"I am not fully decided what the timetable for the classes will be yet. I am going to see what people say they want when they come along to the launch night and take it from there."

Mother-of-two Salma started teaching Bolly-aerobics sessions at Deighton Sports Centre two years ago. Because of its success she decided to start the academy.

"Bollywood is the film industry in India and Lollywood is the Pakistani version," she said.

"They are both very popular and quite different in style."

The launch night is from 6pm until 9pm. People will be able to sign up for the 12-week, £70 course - for both sexes - on the night.

Classes will then be held on Fridays and Saturdays every week at the stadium.
