Plans for Calderdale’s new £9m landmark Central Library have been approved.
Councillors on Calderdale Council’s planning committee gave the go ahead on Tuesday .
The plans for a new Central Library and Archive in Halifax include a fourth gate for the historic Piece Hall nearby.
The design will incorporate the remains of the Square Church in Square Road, including the Grade II* listed spire and rose window.
If rubber-stamped by the Government, work could start next spring with completion expected to take two years.
Calderdale Council leader Tim Swift welcomed the planning permission and said: “I am delighted the plans have reached this stage.
“At the same time they will support the Piece Hall transformation, help create a new pedestrian route from the station to the town centre, and significantly regenerate the area whilst complementing and supporting our wonderful heritage.”
