House of Fraser has launched a major makeover of its Huddersfield store.

New departments are set to open as the retailer expands across a first floor of the Kingsgate Centre.

And there will be new jobs as new concessions move into the store.

Work has started this week and is due to finish in September.

The department store situated in Huddersfield’s Kingsgate shopping centre, is currently undergoing significant improvements including new flooring, lighting and shop fittings. In addition to the interior changes House of Fraser will introduce several new premium brands across womenswear, menswear and fashion accessories.

The newly refurbished store will see the ground floor unveil an improved beauty hall, expanded fashion accessories offer and an upgraded womenswear and lingerie department.

On the lower ground, the menswear department will double in size taking over the whole floor as homeware moves to the first floor to make way for a new men’s shoe department and menswear offering introducing premium brands such as Lacoste, Armani and Farah.

Extensive work to the first floor will house a new homeware department as well as a large Buy & Collect area with dedicated changing rooms for online shoppers.

The store will remain open during the refurbishment.

Store manager Graham Woodward said: “Work on our store has commenced which sees every floor benefit from significant investment.

“Our vision is to create a premium shopping experience for our customers and give those who live and work in Huddersfield access to big name brands without having to travel further a field.

“We hope that the new look and introduction of luxury brands will not only encourage new customers into our store but also to Huddersfield.”

Peter Everest, Managing Director at Kingsgate Shopping centre said: “We are delighted to see this major investment by our anchor store House of Fraser, which will complement our own ongoing investments to ensure Kingsgate remains the fashion core of Huddersfield and one of the key destinations within the region.”

House of Fraser has 59 stores across the UK and Ireland plus two small dot.com concept stores. It has a history stretching back165 years.

The company was sold to China firm Nanjing Cenbest in September last year.
