NEW laws which could curb the menace of fake guns were unveiled today.

Home Secretary David Blunkett pledged action in a huge new campaign against anti-social behaviour.

And one aspect of the new legislation could be to make it illegal to carry replica guns in the streets.

The news comes days after a Huddersfield police chief called for action to ease the problems.

Chief Supt John Holt said it was far too easy for people to get hold of imitation firearms as figures showed many had been used in serious crimes in Huddersfield.

The town has the worst figures in West Yorkshire, yet the bulk of the firearms offences reported involved fake guns.

Mr Blunkett today unveiled a three-year action plan involving community projects.

And the Anti-Social Behaviour Bill, currently before Parliament, includes a clampdown on fake weapons.
