It’s Hollywood great Sir Patrick Stewart.

But his new look is going to be a total surprise to the many fans of the distinguished star of stage and screen.

The Mirfield-born star has tweeted out a bizarre picture under the caption “Patrick Stewart 10 hours ago: Something is happening in Hollywood tonight.”

It depicts the actor in a platinum blonde wig and heavy make-up, wearing gaudy jewellery, in a make-up room.

Sir Patrick, 75, is currently filming a new series of his hit US comedy series Blunt Talk and the bizarre new role was for a scene from the show.

The show follows British newscaster Walter Blunt who moves to Los Angeles with the intention of conquering American nightly cable news.

His misguided decisions on and off the air prove that his ultimate ambitions will be difficult to achieve.

Blunt’s name was taken from the minor character Sir Walter Blunt in William Shakespeare’s Henry IV, Part 1, which was Stewart’s first role with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

And according to showbiz websites, his new look went down a treat with fans of the star, with many comparing him to another member of British acting royalty.

One wrote: “You look like Helen Mirren’s older distinguished sister, and I have so many questions.”

Another added: “Helen Mirren lookalike contest?”

Stewart is also basking in rave reviews from the thriller movie Green Room, in which he plays a sadistic thug, which has just opened in the United States to rave reviews.

The film is due to be released in UK cinemas on Friday, May 13.
