A NEW president of Honley Male Voice Choir has been elected.

Leading Huddersfield businessman Maurice Mosley was named as the new man in charge at the choir’s Annual General Meeting.

Mr Mosley is Group Chairman of Huddersfield-based Hartford Holdings Ltd, which has four factories in the UK.

He is also president of the YMCA Rugby Union Club in Huddersfield.

He takes over from departing president Donald Swann, OBE, who has stepped down after five years as president.

Mr Swann has also served as chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, treasurer, concert and subscribers secretary and Editor of the choir’s magazine, the Honley Mail, since joining the choir in 1980.

He is remaining as a singing member.

Chairman Norman Mellor paid tribute to the work of Mr Swann and presented him with a gift on behalf of the choir.

He also presented Life Membership certificates to Joe Ramsden who retired after 17 years as concert and subscribers secretary and to Stan Solomons who was re-elected as public relations officer, a post he has held for the past 23 years.
