A REVAMPED rubbish dump in Meltham is tip -top.

The new household waste recycling centre in Meltham was officially opened on Thursday.

It was redeveloped by Sita Kirklees Ltd, Kirklees Council’s contractor for waste disposal.

Clr Martyn Bolt, the council’s Cabinet member for environment, said: “The redevelopment of this site was eagerly awaited for some time and has been much welcomed by local people.

“This waste recycling centre is now one of the best sites in the region.

“As well as providing split-level facilities for easy access, over 70% of all waste taken here will be recycled.”

Materials that can be recycled include garden waste, batteries, glass, engine oil and white goods. It serves about 25,000 households.

The council bought land next to the site from Yorkshire Water to double the space available.

The centre is open 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm on Saturdays and 9am to 4pm on Sundays. For details, call 01484 414700.
