A NEW degree course has been introduced to Huddersfield University.
The BA religion and education course is set to begin next September.
Recent figures have shown that during 2004- 2005 there was a 16.9% rise in pupils choosing religious education courses at A-levels.
The university's senior lecturer in religion and education, Jane Burrows, said: "The area surrounding Huddersfield has a wide range of religions and cultures. But there are very few courses that acknowledge and look in depth at these differences.
"There is continuing to be a huge growth in cross- cultures and it is important that people are given the opportunity to learn more about each culture and religion.
"It gives people the opportunity to study different truth claims and faiths.
"We felt it would be a great course to introduce to the university."
Three focus days are being held in June to promote the new course.
