TWO major summer festivals have new homes this year.

A World Together and Huddersfield Carnival have had to move from Greenhead Park because of major restoration work.

The carnival will take place on Friday, July 10 and Saturday, July 11 in various parts of Huddersfield town centre.

The fun begins with the Queen’s Show at Huddersfield Town Hall on the Friday evening, followed by a late-night procession in the town centre.

On Saturday the main parade will go from the Hudawi Centre on Great Northern Centre to the town hall.

This will be followed by an evening event at an unconfirmed location.

Further details of the carnival will be revealed on May 11.

Meanwhile, A World Together – formerly known as the Mela – will take place at Crow Nest Park in Dewsbury on Sunday, July 19.

Both events have been moved this year because of a £5.4m revamp of Greenhead Park.

The work, which began last October, includes a new restaurant behind the conservatory, ornamental lake and new gates and railings.
