Newborn lambs have been mauled by a dog in Meltham .
Police have revealed details of the livestock attack by a dog and warned that court action was being considered.
The incident happened in fields in the village on Tuesday evening.
A spokesman for Kirklees Rural Neighbourhood Policing team said: “A dog has been allowed off its lead in a field of sheep in Meltham, and three lambs have been mauled.
“The people responsible will be dealt with and the matter investigated.
“Please do not let your dogs run free anywhere near livestock.”
The incident prompted a flurry of condemnation on social media, with many criticising dog-owners and calling for action.
