A LEADING Caribbean representative is visiting Huddersfield this week.

Mr Joslyn Whiteman, High Commissioner for Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique, will speak at a public meeting on Friday.

He took over as high commissioner last August and it will be his first visit to meet Huddersfield's Caribbean community from the three islands since Hurricane Ivan struck in September.

Mr John Joseph, a member of the steering committee for the Hurricane Disaster Relief Fund in Huddersfield, said: "He will be informing the community of the progress which had been made with rebuilding on the islands since Hurricane Ivan struck."

Mr Joseph said there were several thousand people living in the Huddersfield area from the three islands.

The meeting will be at the Rumboat Carribar restaurant in Northumberland Street at 7pm and all are welcome.
