A HEALTHY living group is celebrating five years of success.
Newsome Next Generation is coming to a close after half a decade of funding from the Big Lottery.
The group has run exercise sessions, dances and day trips for older people. Newsome Next Generation has also organised a summer football programme for young people in Lowerhouses and Ashenhurst.
The group also runs out-of-school activities for 150 children, including cooking, drama, self-defence and film-making.
Newsome Next Generation co-ordinator Anne-Marie Kelly said: “We are extremely grateful to everyone who has shown enthusiasm over the years. We’re confident that the seeds that have been sown will continue to bear fruit.”
Clr Julie Stewart Turner, who represents the area on Kirklees Council, is a member of Newsome Next Generation’s management board.
She said: “Over the past five years I’ve watched the people involved grow as part of a team and become a vital part of the development of Newsome. They have helped other people take part in activities and care for themselves better.
“Many of the projects will continue thanks to the tremendously committed volunteers.”
