THE Olympics inspired pupils to go for gold at an “off-by heart” poetry competition at Newsome Junior School.

Twenty-four pupils performed in front of a panel of judges – Mrs Jacquie Hall from Berry Brow Infant School, Miss Katie Hopkins, an English teacher from Newsome High School, Mrs Helen Johnstone who organised the competition and Governor Mr Asif Sultan. The overall winner was Ben Wallwork with the poem Rope Swing.
