PATIENTS are being informed on the best way to manage their own health.

As part of Self Care Week, drop-in sessions in libraries and health centres have been organised by NHS Kirklees and Kirklees Council.

The week, which starts on November 14, will allow patients to get information on free, local courses and find out about other support available on helping to improve health and well-being.

NHS Kirklees director of public health Dr Judith Hooper said: “Self care covers every part of living a healthy life from just having a few basic essentials in your medicine cupboard to learning how to manage a long-term health condition.

“People who learn to self care can benefit from a long and healthier life, suffer less pain, anxiety and depressions and enjoy a better quality of life.

“Visitors to the events can have an informal chat with an adviser to find out what support is available for their particular needs.

“This could be anything from support for carers to courses on managing a long-term health condition such as diabetes.

“We also have sessions running at local libraries on how to use the internet to find local services and advice.”
