A District Judge removed a court order banning a man from contacting his partner after the couple told him they wished to have a long-distance relationship.

Nicholas Tapping was banned from seeing Louise Mabey or going to her home.

The order was made after Tapping assaulted her in the early hours of August 21 at her Lockwood home.

Kirklees Magistrates’ Court was told that the 45-year-old went to bed drunk and became verbally aggressive towards Miss Mabey.

He complained that she hadn’t helped him when he was ill before pushing her to the floor and striking her several times in the face.

Tapping also caused damage to several items, including a door and wardrobe.

He is now living in Blackpool and Miss Mabey yesterday asked the court to discharge his restraining order.

She said that she missed him and wished to rekindle the relationship.

Miss Mabey added that the couple now had some distance between them and felt that the previous incident would not be repeated.

District Judge Vincent McDade removed the order.
