Nine people were taken to hospital following a car crash near Grange Moor.

Two of those involved suffered serious injuries.

The victims were a family of five and a group of four young men.

A silver Ford Ka and a green Citroen collided on Barnsley Road, between Grange Moor and Flockton, at 11.11pm last night half a mile from the Grange Moor roundabout.

Five ambulances attended and the driver of the Ka and one person from the Citroen were taken to Leeds General Infirmary suffering from serious but non-life threatening injuries.

According to Yorkshire Ambulance Service the other seven were taken to Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield.

Two fire crews from Dewsbury and Mirfield also attended the scene and put out a fire that completely destroyed the Ka, which had been carrying the young men.

West Yorkshire Police has issued an appeal for witnesses to the accident.

Sgt Martin Greasley, of West Yorkshire Police’s Safer Roads and Neighbourhoods Team said; “We would urge anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and may have seen either of the vehicles prior the collision to come forward.

“Equally, if anyone witnessed the incident itself, we would urge them to come forward as they may hold vital information.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

Anyone who saw the vehicles before the incident, or who witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Safer Roads and Neighbourhoods Team East via 101.
