A COUNCIL service that investigates complaints about night- time noise will be open during the festive period.

Kirklees officials will be working on the nights of Sunday, December 26, Saturday, January 1, and Sunday, January 2.

The council launched the service in October and it investigates about 20 new complaints every weekend.

It operates on Friday and Saturday nights and also on Sunday nights over bank holiday weekends, from 9pm to 7am.

Clr Ann Denham, the council Cabinet member with responsibility for environment and highways, said: "Noise at night is particularly disturbing and can cause disturbed sleep, high levels of stress and, ultimately, ill-health."

The service is in addition to one which has operated for many years to deal with emergency problems and continuing nuisances.
