ACTING great Sir Norman Wisdom bids farewell to TV this weekend.
And, fittingly for a comic actor, his swansong is in a comedy record-breaker.
Sir Norman, 89, appears in the Christmas special of Last Of The Summer Wine.
He returns to the Holmfirth-based sitcom as Billy Ingleton - a character he has played several times in the hit show over the past decade.
And those behind the show are delighted he has chosen it for his farewell appearance.
Alan J W Bell, producer and director, said: "It has been wonderful working with Norman over the years.
"He first appeared as Billy Ingleton in our 1995 Christmas special and has returned several times to play the character.
"Now he has decided to retire and will make his last TV appearance in this year's Christmas special.
"He is a wonderful man to work with and we have been delighted to have him in the series."
The show, which goes out on Sunday evening, is entitled Variations On A Theme Of The Widow Winstanley, and stars all the regular faces.
Sir Norman lines up alongside favourites including Peter Sallis (Clegg), Frank Thornton ( Truly), Kathy Staff (Nora) and Jane Freeman (Ivy) for the 30-minute episode.
There are also guest appearances in the show by Christopher Beeny as Teasdale, Dora Bryan as Roz and Josephine Tewson as Miss Davenport.
Summer Wine is the world's longest-running sitcom and a new series has already been completed.
Clegg, Truly and the rest of the gang will continue meandering around the Holme Valley early in the New Year.
Norman Wisdom, who made his name in comedy films of the 1950s, was knighted in 2000.
He lives in the Isle of Man and pledged to retire completely from showbusiness on his 90th birthday on February 4, 2005.
