Roadworks under way at the scene of a major gas leak are unrelated to the incident, Northern Gas have confirmed.
The current roadworks started on January 5 and will remain for five more weeks.
A spokesperson for Northern Gas said the works were to upgrade ageing metal gas mains.
The project involves upgrading 800m of existing cast iron gas mains in Dewsbury Road and Banks End Road with more safe and durable plastic pipes.
Paul Jagger, construction services area manager at NGN, said: “We know that no-one likes roadworks and we have been working closely with Calderdale Council to plan to work to minimise the disruption caused.
“The gas main that we are replacing is around 100 years old and has been prioritised for replacement to ensure that we can continue to provide a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers in the area for years to come.”
Paul added: “We would like to take this opportunity to apologise in advance for any inconvenience this essential work may cause and thank members of the public for their patience and support.”
NGN are currently spending £90million a year to replace old gas mains across the country.
