A TRAIN operator running services through Huddersfield is celebrating “green” success at the double.
Northern Rail has gained British Standard certification for its energy management systems.
The achievement comes after the company gained international standard for environmental management last year.
The two awards recognise the firm’s commitment to operating in ways that minimise its impact on the environment.
Northern Rail runs the Huddersfield-Barnsley-Sheffield line as well as trans-Pennine “stopping trains” through Huddersfield.
The firm’s commitment to continually improve energy efficiency have included appointing “environmental champions” among its employees, educating its train drivers to cut fuel use and emissions.
It is also investigating alternative and renewable sources of energy and has a policy of reducing wasteful energy consumption.
