THE Muslim community of Kirklees strongly and absolutely condemns the use of violence and the destruction of innocent lives.

There is neither place nor justification in Islam for extremism, fanaticism or terrorism.

Suicide bombings, such as those that killed and injured so many innocent people in London, are unequivocally prohibited in Islam, and those who carried out these barbaric acts are criminals not martyrs.

Such acts are crimes against humanity and contrary to the teachings of Islam.

As British citizens we are united in our determination that acts of evil and terror will not be allowed to succeed and we hope all perpetrators of such acts will be brought to justice for all the innocent lives that were lost.

We will not allow extremism or terrorism to become an obstacle between our faith communities, nor damage the good relations we have enjoyed for many years and to which we, like all our partners in the Kirklees Interfaith Initiative, are so committed to maintaining and developing.

Our sympathy and prayers go to the families of the victims.

We pray for them as we pray for the defeat of extremism and terrorism in the world and we pray for peace, security and harmony to triumph in our country, Great Britain and beyond.
