Alan Danielson gave many years service to his church, amateur dramatics and schools.

Alan joined Woodhouse Church Choir in 1941 and remained a member for more than 70 years.

He first became an active member of Woodhouse Operatic Society in 1946 in its first post war production of Mr Cinders and many years later became its chairman for 18 years. At different times he ran the church Sunday school with wife, Elaine, was a longstanding secretary of the parochial church council and ran the church’s boys’ rugby team.

Alan organised countless church events over the years.

He was chairman of governors at the former Deighton High school, a governor at the former Fartown High and chairman of Huddersfield New College Parents’ Association.

Alan was a founder member and chairman of Huddersfield Theatre Users Association, formed at a time in the late 1980s when Huddersfield was without a theatre.

It became one of the driving forces which resulted in the building of the Lawrence Batley Theatre and the association continues to represent the joint interests of many of the theatres amateur users to this day. Alan remained chairman until 2013.

In his working life he joined ICI in 1960 and remained with the company until he retired as a division personnel officer in 1987.

Alan, who was born in Goole in 1931, was 83 and leaves wife Elaine, son Philip, daughter Helen, three grandsons, Thomas, Oliver and Alexander and a great grandaughter, Lilyana.

His funeral will be at Christ Church, Woodhouse, on Monday, June 16 at 11.30am.
