A FORMER nursing matron has died at the age of 101.
Mrs Edna Hanson had been living at the Thornhill Nursing Home in Edgerton.
She was a nursing matron for 20 years at Manchester Royal Infirmary.
In an interview on her 100th birthday, she said:
"I really enjoyed my job at the hospital and I'm very proud of the work I did."
She was married to the late Donald Hanson, a director of the Hanson family transport business, and aunt by marriage to entrepreneur Lord Hanson.
She was a widow for 50 years.
Mrs Hanson remained active until the age of 100 and did her own cooking and housework in Lindley.
She was also known as a hard worker for several charities.
A funeral service is on Friday, April 30, at 1.45pm at Holy Trinity Church, Huddersfield, followed by cremation at Huddersfield Crematorium.
