RAIL chiefs are still to rule on plans to add Mirfield station to a route providing trains from West Yorkshire to London.

Operator Grand Central Railway wants to include Mirfield on its West Riding route running from Bradford to King’s Cross via Halifax, Brighouse, Wakefield, Pontefract and Doncaster.

The company tabled its bid last January, but the Office of Rail Regulation has yet to rule on it. A spokesman for York-based Grand Central said it was still hoped to get approval in time for a timetable change due in December – in which case Mirfield could be added to the route in time for Christmas.

Earlier this month, Mirfield councillor Martyn Bolt called for Kirklees Council to provide a car park for the station on the basis of the bid getting the green light.

He hoped a deal could be done with the owners of a disused engineering site in front of the station.
