A MILNSBRIDGE couple received a surprise delivery when their baby was born in their new car.

David Lomas, 24, and partner Josie Hardwick, 20, were shocked when baby Chloe put in an early appearance before they even had chance to head for hospital.

Josie had called David from her mother's house at 7.10pm on Tuesday, October 21, to say she had gone into labour.

Within minutes, David arrived in his Suzuki Grand Vitara - which he had bought the day before.

He took Josie to their home in Pickford Street to collect her hospital bag.

But when he got back to the car he discovered Chloe was on her way and there was no time to go to hospital.

After enlisting the help of a neighbour, David helped Josie deliver the baby in the passenger seat. Chloe was born at 7.20pm, weighing a healthy 8lb 11oz.

After being checked by a midwife neither mother or baby needed to go to hospital.

Chloe is a sister for David and Josie's daughter Caitlin, two.
