TWO Huddersfield youngsters are to carry the Olympic Torch.

Callum Parkinson and Aimee Jennings will both join the celebrations in Yorkshire in June.

But for Fenay Bridge schoolboy Callum – badly injured in a road accident almost three years ago – there is a problem.

His run on June 19 is due to take place in Goole but clashes with his maths GCSE exam at King James’ School, Almondbury.

Now his family and Torch run organisers are trying to find an alternative date.

Callum, 14, was nominated by Jane Pullein, of Newsome Panthers Rugby Club, where he used to play.

She was impressed by his fighting spirit after the terrible injuries he sustained when he was knocked down on Station Road in Fenay Bridge in June 2009.

The quick actions of paramedics and the crew of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance saved his life.

Mum Christine – who has organised a mediums evening on April 19 to raise funds for the Air Ambulance – said: “He is delighted to have been chosen but is just worried over the clash with his exam.

“We are hoping to sort it out. He is doing well at school and hopes to get a few GSCEs this year.”

Aimee, 12, of Almondbury, is a pupil at Almondbury High School.

Her selection as one of the Torch runs came via a teacher at the school, Kath Kerchington, who was impressed by Aimee’s commitment and ability on the sports field and in the sports hall.

The youngster plays football, hockey, netball and bowling and is involved at both school and club level.

She has been chosen to run a leg of the Torch relay in Headingley, Leeds, on June 24.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to the run.

“My family and friends are also delighted and many of them have said they’ll try and come along to support me.”

The Air Ambulance fundraiser featuring four mediums is at the Huddersfield Spiritualist Church on Thursday, April 19. For details contact Samara Aziz on 07875 308602.
