PART of Kirklees Council is feeling on top of the world!

The physical activity and sports development section of Culture and Leisure Services has been awarded the highest-ever score in a Quest assessment.

Quest is the recognised quality standard scheme for the UK’s sports and leisure industry, both private and public.

It measures all aspects of management, development and delivery.

Kirklees was assessed this month and scored 96%, beating the previous highest score of 95% held by Sport England (Yorkshire and Humberside).

Clr Liz Smaje, the Kirklees Cabinet member for leisure and neighbourhood services, said: “The sport and physical activity element of the department has a national reputation for innovation and delivery.

This result confirms the quality for which we are renowned and is all credit to the efforts of staff.”

The result is doubly pleasing as it reclaims the top spot which Kirklees held with a score of 88% two years ago.

Clr Smaje added: “We were disappointed when Sport England (Yorkshire and Humberside) beat our previously highest score.

We don’t want to be just good, we want to be the best. That attitude is driving standards up and helped us to take back the top spot.”
