One person was killed and several believed injured in a crash above Holmfirth.

Emergency services launched a huge rescue operation this afternoon and crews raced to the A635 Greenfield Road.

There were reports that a camper van and four other vehicles had collided on the road, which runs from Holmfirth across the moors to Greenfield.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance was sent to the scene.

Fire crews from Huddersfield and Cleckheaton were among those called to the scene, along with a number of ambulances.

Police said the crash happened shortly after 4pm on the Greenfield Road.

The vehicles included a camper van.

Initial reports said up to eight people were feared trapped in the crash but rescuers said later that four had needed help.

A police spokesman confirmed there had been a fatality.
