It’s about as far away from the sea as you can get in Britain.

But for those who fancy sampling a lfie on the ocean wave, Dunford Bridge may have the answer.

It’s the home of the Pennine Sailing Club, who use the expanse of Winscar reservoir high in the Pennines as their base.

On Sunday, May 17, the club is holding its annual Open Day and is extending an invite to anyone who wants to try sailing.

Club spokesman Michael Etherington said: “The sailing club is going from strength to strength, having recently extended its clubhouse and invested

in better facilities for sailors and non sailing visitors.

“The open day is a great opportunity to try out sailing for the first time. Experienced club members will take you out for a safe and enjoyable sail and visitors can see the facilities on offer.

“People can also bring their own sailboat and try out the reservoir.

“There’s a chance to talk to trained instructors, coaches and club members.

“Although the club is run solely by volunteers, it takes a professional approach to safety and training with a high number of members with formal Royal Yachting Association qualifications in training, safety and first aid.”

The day runs from 12 noon till 4pm and refreshments will be on sale with proceeds to charity.
