BUS services in the Colne Valley will soon have a new operator.

On April 26, Stott Coaches will be taking over 390, 391, 396 and 397 routes from First Bus.

The routes heading out of Huddersfield along Manchester Road encompass Crosland Moor, Slaithwaite, Wellhouse and Golcar.

Huddersfield-based Stotts will also be taking on the 384 and 385 journeys between Huddersfield and Brighouse along Bradford Road.

At present, Stotts run 12 routes around Huddersfield and the new services will mean they have 15 in all.

Their minibuses seat 25 people.

Company director Carl Stott said the company had a good track record.

In the 10 years since they had taken on Holme Valley services passenger numbers had doubled.

Golcar Lib Dem councillor Mary Granger greeted the changes with some reservations.

"I welcome this if it's going to be more reliable than the First service."

She said there were times in the day when services were infrequent.

"There are gaps that need plugging."

But she said passengers could buy cheaper through tickets on the First services which would be unavailable from Stotts.

The tickets could be bought by those wanting to continue their trip on a second bus from Huddersfield.

Clr Granger said: "I would like Metro to take that on board and perhaps re-introduce some through ticketing."
