An opticians in Huddersfield which suddenly closed leaving many of its customers in the dark has been taken over by Vision Express.

Premier Vision closed on Wednesday afternoon with the shutters brought down at its shop in New Street. It had a number of outlets, including Huddersfield, Wakefield and Macclesfield.

Vision Express has taken them over and retail and operations director Neil McGowan said: “This is a very exciting investment for Vision Express.

“We are committed to providing a seamless transition for those affected and we’re looking forward to welcoming new customers into our Huddersfield, Macclesfield and Wakefield stores.

”We hope to replicate some of the successes we have had in our existing high street stores.”

But one customer, Jason Cornish, of Golcar, felt there should have been more information for people to let them know what had happened to Premier Vision.

He had ordered glasses for his daughter and spoke to Premier Vision on Wednesday morning, asking if he could collect them that afternoon.

“They said they had them in and I asked if I could collect them after school and they said yes. But when we went, the shutters were down and they were closed.

“I rang some of their other branches and eventually someone answered, and said they had been taken over by Vision Express.

“I have sorted out the glasses with Vision Express, but there were no signs at the Premier Vision store telling people what the situation is.

“I am proactive and don’t mind ringing round to find out what’s happened, but some people might struggle with that, and there should have been a sign at the shop, and something on the website, to let people know.”
