More than 600 people wrapped up well for an outdoor Last Night of the Proms-style charity concert night.

Music lovers settled down with a picnic and a glass or two to enjoy a performance by Slaithwaite Philharmonic Orchestra at Huddersfield Golf Club in Fixby.

Music by composers from Elgar to Puccini floated through the cool evening air. A cannon was fired at the height of the 1812 Overture.

The event, Orchestral Fireworks In the Park, was held to celebrate the 125th anniversaries of both the golf club and the orchestra and money was raised for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice at Brackenhall.

The night ended with a stunning fireworks display.

Gina Fielding, a member of Friends of Forget Me Not, said: “It was a superb concert with spectacular fireworks.

“Everyone paid £20 to attend and brought their own picnics with them.

“I’d like to thank both groups for choosing to use their big occasion to raise money for us.”
