Bowlers from years gone by are being urged to dig deep into their memory banks.

Outlane Bowling Club is celebrating its 100th anniversary this month.

The club’s committee is planning on promoting the club’s proud history with a special display of its heritage.

And it is calling on people with memories and memorabilia to get in touch to help boost the exhibition.

The celebration, which takes place on Sunday, August 25, will be a family fun day and will also pay tribute to the club’s origins and links with brass bands.

Expert bowlers will be on hand to provide free taster sessions and the event will also feature stalls and games, with top raffle prizes including a widescreeen TV.

An auction of items will feature a signed cookbook by celebrity Yorkshire chef James Martin and a bottle of Champagne from Wimbledon.

Committee member Liz Smith is one of those helping to arrange the celebrations.

She said the club, formerly Joseph Hoyle’s Band Room, has a proud history.

“We are planning the usual community-type event, which will obviously include a brass band to highlight the linkages.

“I have been tasked with the job of finding out as much as I can about its history so that we can set up a historical corner as part of the celebrations.

“We know there are people out there with stories, photos and memorabilia and I was wondering if it was possible to reach out to these people through The Examiner.”
