Huddersfield’s Packhorse Shopping Centre was hit by an early-hours flood.

Water poured through ceilings at the centre off King Street early on Friday and forced staff into a huge mopping-up operation.

King Street entrance to Pack Horse Centre closed after firefighters had to cut a hole in shutters to deal with flooding.

The shops and food vendors in the Centre were able to open.

But the entrance to the centre from King Street remained out of use because of damage to the roller shutters.

Centre manager David Heathcote-Smith said: “The fire brigade were called out in the early hours and had to get into the centre.

“They cut through the shutter doors to get inside and we are waiting for the firm to come and repair them”.

The flood, thought to be from a burst pipe, left an inch of water in the centre and staff spent hours cleaning up the damage.
